GT Championship
The 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship is split into three classes:
GT3
Racecars are close to their road car equivalents. They have their interiors
stripped out to save weight and safety enhancements are fitted. Limited, and
strictly policed, modifications can be made to the suspension, engine and bodywork.
GT4
Like GT3, the racecars are close to their road car equivalents. They have their
interiors stripped out to save weight and safety enhancements are fitted. Limited,
and strictly policed, modifications can be made to the suspension, engine and bodywork.
The class requires less investment to both buy and run the vehicles.
Invitation
Permits GT cars, selected by the organisers, which for reason of homologation production
numbers, or other specified reasons, do not comply with the regulations for GT4 or GT3.
Race Information
Start Procedure
Each race begins with a rolling start, in 2x2x2 line astern grid formation. The pace lap is
normally only one lap. Exceptions to this are when track conditions change or the grid
formation is not correct for the start.
The organiser's official leading car will pull off at the end of the formation lap. The cars
will continue on their own with the pole position leading at a minimum speed of 70 kph and a
maximum of 90 kph. A race judge may monitor the speed of the car in pole position by radar.
No car may overtake another car until it has passed the green light at the start line.
Success Ballast
The organisers will operate a system of handicap weights, dependant upon race results. These
weights will be applied in each class, even if the drivers in the car are not scoring points.
- 1st = 30 kg
- 2nd = 20 kg
- 3rd = 10 kg
Any car in the invitation class finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd Overall will also carry the relevant
weight for that position in addition to the cars finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in class.
Maximum handicap total weight will be 60 kg. Reductions in handicap weights will be made as follows,
- 4th = 10kg
- 5th = 20kg
- 6th or lower = 30kg
There will be no negative weights. Any car disqualified from classification will not have any handicap
weight removed for the following race. A car must be deemed to have started the race for any handicap
weight to be removed. For the purpose of handicap weights a car will be deemed to have started the race
as soon as it crosses the start line at the start of a race.
Class Numbers
Cars from each class can be identified by the following coloured system for the number panels on each car.
- White numbers on red backgrounds GT3
- White numbers on blue backgrounds GT4
- Black numbers on yellow background Invitation Class
Points will be awarded for each race towards the individual class championships as follows:
- 1st - 10
- 2nd - 8
- 3rd - 6
- 4th - 5
- 5th - 4
- 6th - 3
- 7th - 2
- 8th - 1
Points will be awarded for classification in each class.
If there are less than six starters in each class, the points awarded for that class will be divided by two.
In order to be classified in the results, competitors must have completed 70% of the race distance covered by the class winner.

After each race a trophy will be presented to 1st 2nd and 3rd in GT3 & GTC. A trophy may be
